National Registration Fee
The National Registration Fee (NRF) is a single, consolidated fee that funds insurance cover and a digital services contribution for community and premier cricket. The NRF is age based, collected at registration through PlayHQ/PlayCricket, and guarantees participants a minimum of 12 months of cover and access to ongoing digital improvements. Even if you play in multiple Associations, Competitions or Teams, you will only be charged the NRF once each year (provided you use the same PlayHQ account).
NRF Amounts and Who Pays
| Category | NRF amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Juniors under 18 | $17.45 | Charged by participant age |
| Seniors 18 and over | $36.50 | Charged by participant age |
| Coaches managers volunteers | Exempt | Not charged but remain covered |
Key point
The NRF price is based on the participant’s age at the registration date. A junior playing in a senior competition still pays the junior rate.
Fee Breakdown
| Category | Junior | Senior |
|---|---|---|
| Insurance | $8.00 | $27.05 |
| PlayHQ | $4.80 | $4.80 |
| Community Apps & Websites | $4.65 | $4.65 |
| Total | $17.45 | $36.50 |
How the NRF 12 Month Period Is Calculated
Rule
The NRF 12 month period starts on the later of the Competition Season Start Date or the Date of Registration. This ensures early registrants receive a full 12 months of coverage and are not disadvantaged.
Illustration
| Competition Season Start | Registration Date | NRF Start | NRF Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Oct 2026 | 6 Jul 2026 | 6 Jul 2026 | 30 Sep 2027 |
| 1 Oct 2026 | 15 Dec 2026 | 15 Dec 2026 | 14 Dec 2027 |
Why this matters
If you register before a season starts, your NRF still begins on your registration date so you get a full 12 months. If you register after the season start, your NRF begins on that later registration date.
NRF Renewal Rules and Timing
Rule
If the competition you are registering to has a Competition Season End Date that falls after your current NRF expiry, you will be prompted to pay the NRF again when registering for that competition.
How the new expiry is set
When a second NRF is paid, the new expiry is set 12 months from the existing Date of Expiry, not from the Date of Payment. This prevents mid season lapses and avoids partial coverage gaps.
Renewal Examples
| Competition End Date | Re registration Date | Current NRF Expiry | NRF Required | New Expiry After Payment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 Mar 2028 | 6 Jul 2027 | 30 Sep 2027 | Yes | 30 Sep 2028 |
| 30 Mar 2028 | 15 Nov 2027 | 14 Dec 2027 | Yes | 14 Dec 2028 |
Why this exists
This prevents a participant’s insurance from lapsing mid season and avoids situations where coverage cannot be extended without completing a registration.
Practical Scenarios
-
One NRF covers multiple competitions when all competitions finish within the same 12 month NRF window.
Example Register 1 April; winter finishes August; summer finishes following March → one NRF covers both. -
Second NRF required when a later competition end date extends beyond your NRF expiry.
Example Register 1 April; winter finishes August; summer finishes following May → the system will prompt for a second NRF.
